Charge Consultant Blog
Twenty Days

Wednesday, 17 September 2008 20:16
It's been 20 days and I'm 9 states, 6 Charges, 2 Colonies and 2 countries into another epic coast-to-coast tour de force of the fraternity. And you know what? I love it. Every time I get off the Interstate (or off the Quew as I so naively referred to Queen Elizabeth Way in Toronto), I get filled with a renewed sense of excitement to see what each of our Charges and Colonies have been up to. It doesn't seem to matter that each group has its own unique identity or local nuances that make them "Lambda Triton" or "Beta Deuteron", it only matters that the first time I see someone wearing those beautiful letters and espousing zeal for the fraternity, I get chills. And I mean serious chills.

Just because I have the transcendental opportunity to work for the Old Lady doesn't mean I should be the only one to have experiences like these. One of the greatest opportunities we have as brothers is the ability to get to know those that are different from ourselves in many ways yet still promote the same values and understanding of what it means to be a Theta Delt. There's so much to be gleaned from getting to know your brothers at different institutions. Half of my value as a traveling consultant comes from my experiences in seeing what works in some schools as opposed to what doesn't work at others. Whatever your problem may be, the chances are that someone at another Charge has an answer. It's through these inter-Charge friendships that we can be at our strongest as an international organization.

A Great Summer

I won't lie to you. I had a great summer. I relaxed. I spent time with my friends; I went on adventures. I even attended a Theta Delta Chi Convention or two (Okay, it was just one but it was such a blast, I wish there was another before next summer in Madison!). For the longest time, I really wished that the summer wouldn't end. That is until last week when I remembered why I have the best job in the world. Seeing so many of my best friends and brothers in Vegas last week reminded me of why I love being a Theta Delt so much.

On September 1st, in less than three weeks, I'll be getting into my (very weathered) 1995 Subaru Legacy and driving to the new Lambda Triton Charge at Rutgers University to kick off what should be another monumental year for Theta Delta Chi (and kick off the RU football season with a win over Fresno St). With Bro. Phil Parker, Sigma Triton '08, joining staff to help in consulting many of our stronger groups, I will continue working with our newest Thetes across the country as we make a name for ourselves on new campuses and revive the banner on others. I am especially excited to revisit those friends that I've made and make new ones (if you have some friends that deserve to wear our letters, email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ). I will also try to keep my promise this year of getting back to Sigma Deuteron at Wisconsin and making my first visit to Iota Triton at UMass-Dartmouth ( Sorry, Ryan, I won't disappoint you again!)

I will be headed west towards Los Angeles where I will be spending almost two months at the beautiful Psi Deuteron House working diligently with their alumni to resurrect the powerhouse that is our UCLA Charge. On the way, I will be visiting many of you so that we can work together to ensure that Theta Delta Chi remains a leader on every campus. I am eager to keep you all aware of all the people I meet, places I visit and adventures that I have with Theta Delts young and old and Brothers new and experienced. Throughout this blog, I hope to share with you stories of our mutual successes as well as those problems we surmount in hopes that we can continue to grow into a stronger brotherhood and a tighter network and benefit each other through our experiences.

So while I had fun this summer....and trust me I did....I can only imagine what this coming school year holds...it's a great time to be a Theta Delt and I am happy to have the chance to share it with you.
